The GEOS Cairns College of English is Cairns’s most awarded English Language School. The College is surrounded by tropical rainforest. Its location is less than 25 kilometres from the Great Barrier Reef. International students seeking to enjoy themselves while learning can take advantage of the institute’s location and go hiking, bungee jumping, scuba diving or just have some down time on the beach nearby. Students can also enjoy what the City of Cairns has to offer culturally and socially.

The fully accredited college aims to make learning the English enjoyable for international students. There is a range of English courses that include Cambridge and IELTS Exam preparation. Students from overseas are also offered study tours, student activities and accommodation services.

Inside the college there is a reception area. This is where students can ask staff questions and enquire about their concerns. There is also a room for students to study. The computer room used by classes can be used by students during breaks between classes and hours after school.

Classrooms are air-conditioned and comfortable. The size of the classes is small allowing students to gain individual attention. Lounge areas are located on every floor. Students can relax during break times and after school hours using the pool and table tennis facilities.

There are several types of English courses. General English is for learning skills in reading, talking, listening, grammar and writing. There are course levels ranging from beginner to advanced level. Courses for Cambridge Exam Preparation are for those who want to learn intensely. There are also courses for IELTS Exam Preparation for students intending to learn skills for tests and want to practice academic vocabulary. English for Teaching Children are for those wanting to teach or work with children. The courses involve observing and teaching in lessons. English for Young Learners is a holiday program. It is designed to be fun and is for students aged 8-15 year.

International students have the opportunity to combine studying English with adventure to make their experience unforgettable. Study tours can include airport transfers, meals, home-stay accommodation, in-class instruction and heaps of fun. International students can be part of the Reef Safari Program. This is a part-time course. In it are sight-seeing and trips to the rainforest and outback. There is also the Tropical Safari. This course offers class instruction as well as sight-seeing activities. International students can also design their own tours. There are a range of activities that can become part of their designed tour.

While enrolled at the college international students can do various activities in Cairns that can enhance their experience of Australia. They can visit local cafés and pubs, ride on horseback scuba diving or whale watching. There are also diver training facilities in Cairns due to the city’s close proximity to the Great Barrier Reef. Diving courses are available for beginners and more experienced people.
International students can choose to have homestay accommodation. This is where students stay in the homes of Australian families. They will live the resident families.

The families provide students with meals. Students also get involved in family activities. Just like they would at their home students are expected to clean up after themselves. This accommodation is organised by the Cairns College of English. International students will have the opportunity to practice speaking and writing skills and learn about Australian culture. There are other forms of accommodation for students. They can stay in hostels and share-houses. The Cairns College of English do not place students in these types of accommodation although they do provide some assistance in seeking them.
